Sharing Best Practice: Championing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Through a new PBS Community Practice Forum, we’re championing Positive Behaviour Support and sharing best practice. A space to be reflective and connect with colleagues for the benefit of the people we support.

At Bright Futures, we put a high priority on learning and continual professional development to ensure our teams are trained to excellent standards.  We work in partnership with external healthcare professionals, therapeutic services, and have our own Specialist Support Team to ensure we are harnessing our full expertise.

We have recently put together a ‘Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Forum – Community of Practice’ for our internal colleagues, to ensure we’re staying up-to-date with the latest practice developments and facilitating the sharing of best practice within our teams.

We held our first forum last month, led by our very own internal Specialist Support Team – with the plan to continue these sessions with our teams on a regular basis going forward. As part of the forum, colleagues across both our care and education provision are encouraged to present good practice examples so that learning can be shared using real life examples.

The topics at our most recent forum covered:

  • Building capable environments to open up the world of the people we support
  • Capturing the voice of the people we support through a deeper understanding of their preferred communication styles and various tools that are available
  • Goal setting and measuring progress through Intention, Implementation & Impact.

The PBS Forum offers colleagues the opportunity to share examples of best practice, meet up with colleagues from across the business and a space to be reflective for the benefit of the people we support. This type of activity helps us move towards becoming more practice-led and uses real life examples and experiences to enrich the learning and development. For us and our person-centred approach, building up a bank of knowledge and shared experiences empowers our teams to provide more flexible solutions, that can be tailored to each individual’s needs, behaviours and outcomes.
