Behind the scenes, Ash Meadow have been working hard to become an Open Awards provider to ensure recognised qualifications are available to students.
Ash Meadow are officially an Open Awards provider!

We are excited to announce that Ash Meadow have become an Open Awards provider, allowing them to offer qualifications to Key Stage 4 students (aged 14+)

Ash Meadow will offer qualifications from Entry 1 up to Level 1 in a range topics about work and life including:

  • Independence in the Home and Community
  • Making Informed Career Decisions
  • Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing
  • Science
  • Digital Skills

Students will be put forward for awards if their education team truly believe this is achievable for them, with the school carefully matching each student and class to qualifications that are aligned with their abilities, goals and interests.

What are Open Awards?

Open Awards are an in-house qualification provision that allows students to gain qualifications that are recognised by colleges and employers nationwide.

Ash Meadow will be using the Open Awards Skills Passports which ensure students can gain awards and certificates that accredit work and life skills and create a more personalised curriculum for the Ash Meadow students.

These qualifications are designed to provide students with community-based skills, independence and personal development, preparing them for life after Bright Futures, whether this be college, supported internships or employment.

Students will study 4-5 qualifications as a whole class, learning through a combination of classroom-based study and community-based activities.

You can find out more about the Open Awards Skills Passport here.

What does this mean for our students?

Open Awards will open opportunities for them to develop their work and life skills whilst gaining qualifications they can use as examples in college applications or job interviews. Students will be encouraged to share their successes and will be guided on how to demonstrate their qualifications beyond the classroom. These qualifications will prepare them for life after school, whatever that next step looks like for them.

The qualifications will follow a number of different routes and pathways, depending on student ability and the stage they are at, including:

  • Sensory
  • Holistic
  • Skills
  • General Entry Level
  • Independence, working & living and supported internships
  • Leaving Bright Futures to go to college

What next?

Becoming an Open Awards provider is a really exciting next step for Ash Meadow as it provides them with the opportunity to expand on their current subject offering.

Going forward, they hope to offer Function Skills up to Level 2 as an in-house qualification as well as developing further qualifications aligned with student interests.
