At Bright Futures, we’re passionate about making a difference – not only in the lives of the people we support and educate, but also in the communities around us. Over the past few months, colleagues from across our organisation have done exactly that, coming together to raise an incredible £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The journey began at the start of the year, when 10 colleagues committed to taking on The Big Hike. After months of training and preparation, they set off on Saturday to tackle the challenging 26-mile marathon hike through the Lake District.
With the sun shining and some beautiful backdrops and scenery surrounding them, the team successfully completed the marathon. It was no small feat, but through determination, encouragement and snacks along the way, every single hiker crossed the finish line!
While our hikers were covering the miles, we wanted this to be a fundraising effort that involved everyone across Bright Futures.
From the very beginning, the aim was to make this more than a sponsored hike. We wanted colleagues, the people we support and our wider teams to have the opportunity to get involved, have fun and raise money for a cause that has touched so many lives.
Across our homes, schools and support services, teams organised an amazing variety of fundraising activities, including:
- A “Soak the Commercial Team” water balloon challenge
- A Pool party during the heatwave
- Beat the Goalie competitions
- Car washes
- Bake sales
- Sponsored walks
- “Guess the Name of the Capybara”
- A “Where’s Wolfie?” competition
Each event brought people together in its own unique way, creating opportunities for laughter, teamwork and community while raising money for life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
To help maximise the impact of everyone’s efforts, Bright Futures also rounded up the total amount raised, boosting the overall total and helping us reach an incredible £5K
This achievement reflects so much more than a fundraising total. It demonstrates the generosity, compassion and community spirit that runs throughout Bright Futures. Together, we’ve shown what can be achieved when people unite behind a common cause.
