We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news from our Willow Tree Park School community. Polly, our much-loved therapy dog, is now officially certified!
After 15 months of dedicated training, practice, and support from her handler and team, Polly earned her therapy dog certification on 4th April 2025. This milestone celebrates her calm, caring nature and the incredible impact she’s already having on students and colleagues alike.
Polly has become a beacon of positivity. Whether she’s greeting students, sitting quietly during literacy sessions, or supporting emotional regulation exercises, her presence brings calm, comfort, and confidence. She’s a valued part of our therapeutic approach and educational support here at Willow Tree Park School.
A Role with Real Impact
Polly plays a key part in everyday school life. She is also an active participant in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme, supporting students through new challenges, reducing anxiety and building confidence.
In literacy sessions, Polly offers a quiet and listening presence that helps students to read aloud with greater ease and enjoyment. Her role in emotional regulation is equally powerful, helping students feel safe and grounded with just a quiet moment or gentle interaction.
Real, Measurable Benefits
Polly’s presence is already leading to positive outcomes:
- Better Attendance: Her presence has encouraged students to attend school more regularly, easing anxieties and making school a place they look forward to.
- Support Through Change: Polly provides vital support during times of change, helping students to navigate new experiences or unfamiliar environments with greater confidence.
- Improved Behaviour: Many students have shown improved behaviour, attributing their progress to their interactions with Polly and the supportive environment she helps create.
This achievement also reflects the dedication of everyone who supported Polly’s journey – from her training team Alicia and Kyle, to our wider school teams. Their patience, care, and commitment made this possible.
Looking Ahead
Now officially certified, Polly will continue to play a vital role in supporting our students’ wellbeing, confidence, and development. She’s more than a therapy dog — she’s a trusted companion, motivator, and source of daily joy.

“To put it straight, I couldn’t even try to put into words how incredibly proud I am of this little dog. I don’t think anyone understands how much I care and love Polly, and how much this whole experience has meant to me, and I don’t think anyone ever will.
I will remember this for the rest of my life, and I hope Polly can help more people when I am gone. Just like how much she helped me.
Polly is the greatest dog on this planet, and I wish I could express how grateful I am, but I genuinely don’t think I could.
I hope this provides some insight into how incredible Polly really is. She is beyond intelligent, and she will continue to be the best part of this entire school.
