The Power Of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

At Bright Futures, we believe in seeing the person first. Their passions, their strengths, and their potential. That’s why Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is at the heart of how we work in both our adult and children’s residential homes.

PBS is not a strategy or a set of interventions. It is a person-centred approach that focuses on improving quality of life, understanding individual needs, and supporting behaviour in safe, compassionate and meaningful ways. For the people we support, it means feeling truly understood and respected, and a deeply personalised approach that fosters confidence and empowers.

We know that when a person’s environment, communication, and routines are right for them, they can thrive. At Bright Futures, we have a dedicated Specialist Support Team, that supports our PBS goals and helps us work in proactive ways, reducing the likelihood of behaviours of concern by getting things right.

Positive Behaviour Support is achieved through collaborating closely with family’s, support workers, our specialist support team and professionals to build consistent, supportive routines and relationships. Helping the people we support to feel safe and empowered in their world.

Whether it’s supporting a young learner in one of our children’s residential homes or helping an adult develop new independence skills, PBS empowers people to achieve goals they once thought were out of reach.

And the impact? It’s transformational. On average, 70% of the people we support are in Tier 1, which Is the lowest of our 3-tiered approach. We also achieved a 19.5% reduction in the number of interventions.

We’ve seen individuals who previously struggled to communicate now make choices using assistive tools. We’ve supported children who arrived feeling anxious and overwhelmed to now feel confident and included in daily life. These changes may seem small to some, but they are life-changing for the people we support and their families.

At Bright Futures, we continue to learn and grow every day, encouraging continuous reflection and development. From regular reviews and team training, to actively involving families and the people we support in shaping care plans. Every success and every challenge give us an opportunity to grow stronger, together.

We are proud to be a safe pair of hands for families making big decisions about care. Our unwavering commitment to providing thoughtful, therapeutic support creates spaces where people don’t just feel supported, they feel seen, heard, and valued.

This is Positive Behaviour Support.
