What a career in residential care is like at Bright Futures

Here because they want to improve the lives of the people we support, our Residential Support Workers are key to the great quality care that we pride ourselves on here at Bright Futures. We put the people we support first, here to advocate for their best interests, make a positive impact on their lives, and empower them to get the most out of life.

We’re specialists in making a difference to the lives of both young people and adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, and if you ask us… we’re really good at what we do.

A person-centred approach

Every day is different; with a focus on person-centred practice, we provide a safe environment and strive to create tailored opportunities for the people we support to experience the world around them. To do that, our teams actively participate alongside them, blending into their world. Whether that’s a meal out at a restaurant, going to a theme park, or a day at the beach, our people experience any activities alongside the people we support.  You’re not simply someone who is paid to spend time with them, it’s so much more than that.

What to expect

Day to day as a Residential Support Worker you’ll assist the people we support with their daily life, promoting independence and helping them express themselves and fulfil their individual potential. We work together, with the people we provide support and education to, with their families, with our community, with our colleagues and fellow professionals to provide the high-quality care that we pride ourselves on.

Shift patterns can vary; our care offering is 24/7 so there are sometimes bank holiday, weekend, and overnight shifts required within each home. Our aim is to create a consistent and homely atmosphere for the people we support, as part of that, shift patterns are confirmed 4 weeks in advance to give you plenty of notice and flexibility for your life outside of work.

On average, we have two Residential Support Workers to each one person we support, so that you can really make a difference. It’s dependent on the support needs of each individual and is something we’re really proud of.

Setting you up for success

We have a strong and thorough induction process that ensures our new colleagues are set up for success from the outset. We welcome people from all experience levels, so full induction training is provided before you start your shifts with us. Not only that, but we support our teams with ongoing refresher and additional training as required to help you grow.

We have our own internal Specialist Support Team and work alongside industry experts to help our teams to thrive and provide the best possible care. Supported by strong and capable management teams and a people-focused company culture, you’ll be provided with the tools and knowledge to make a real difference.

We can’t promise that it will always be easy, but you’ll be making a difference to the lives of the people we support, celebrating their achievements and offering that unwavering support when things get tough. The feedback from our people is that the good days will always outshine; especially with the backing and support of the whole team.
